Hurrah! The change of time for the bicycle ride seems to have worked.
I know I ranted on about the chilled coconuts yesterday but they are making a huge difference to my sense of well being and they even seem to suppress the hunger pangs. I'm drinking two a day now, one in the morning and then one after the bicycle ride and they are an efficacious (Ithankyou) energy restorative. Even when the fast is over, I intend to make them my soft drink of choice for the future - they are so good. Here's a little something from Wikipedia on the topic.
In recent years, coconut water has been marketed as a natural energy or sports drink due to its high potassium and mineral content. Marketers have also promoted coconut water for having no fat and very low amounts of carbohydrates, calories, and sodium. However, marketing claims attributing tremendous health benefits to coconut water are largely unfounded.[2]
Unless the coconut has been damaged, it is likely sterile. There have been cases where coconut water has been used as an intravenous hydration fluid in some developing countries where medical saline was unavailable.
My cardio fitness is definitely improving with the bike rides and although it is nowhere near where it could be, my times on the rides are improving fast. My "emergency fat boy" shorts now need a belt to prevent them dropping to my ankles which is cool and the XXL sports shorts that I bought for squash (without trying them on first) now all fit comfortably - I couldn't even put them on when I first got them.
So I have a major dilemma and I'd like you all to tell me your thoughts. At the end of March, by which time the fast will have been over for two weeks and I will have been off the booze and cigarettes for 3 months, the chief and I are going to Australia to a friend's wedding. I have never been to Australia. I love Australian wines (please god - don't let any of my Aussie mates read that). I'm thinking that as a reward to myself (assuming that I make it to 42 days) and because it's a wedding that I might quaff a little wine during the week that I'm there. Once the week is over and we're back in Singapore I'd go back on the wagon to achieve the intended fitness. What do you think? "A" as my wife refers to our housemate in her blog, is about 5'8" and cannot be more than 70 kilos. In the Brazilian churasceria - the one where they bring you skewer after skewer of delicious meats and don't stop until you ask them to, I have seen him gorge himself to the point of needing assistance to walk out. Even the waiters raise their eyebrows in a sort of stunned reverence which is mingled with a WTF? And they're used to fat bloaters like myself going in their and reducing their profits. It's not just the sheer amount that he eats - it's the grim determination with which he does it. But most surprising of all is the fact that there doesn't appear to be an ounce of fat on him. His stomach does not bulge out, at least not visibly, and yet somehow I have to stop eating when he's not even halfway done. Does not compute. Yesterday he was absolutely disgraceful - you remember the exquisite curries that I recently made mention of? Well he had not one but two of them and those with enough rice to feed three hungry men. Nothing was left except the delicious curry smell which played havoc with my senses. So how is it that this scrawny little sod manages to eat in quite such an unrestrained manner and not get fat - frankly it seems grossly unfair.
whether you have a drink in Sydney at the end of March is a separate issue from your fast, isn't it? I thought you not drinking is a separate challenge which you started on 1 Jan 2012. What was the goal there? To never drink again? If that's the case, then you can't drink in Sydney. To not drink until you are down to a healthy weight? Then if it goes to plan - then you should be a healthy weight by end of March, and you can perhaps have a glass or two like a normal person. To not drink for 2, 3 or 4 months? You have your answer there.
ReplyDeleteBut again, you need to consider how it will impinge on your fasting goal.
The fasting goal is to fast for 42 days, which ends on 18 March. Then you have to break your fast which is another challenge in itself. You can't go back to eating the way you did during your pre-fast (pizzas and Chinese) because your stomach and intestines will burst and you will die. Nope - no exaggeration there. YOU.WILL.DIE. You need to start on the juices and soups (even a little consomme?) etc and move on slowly to solids. By the time you get to Sydney, you can probably eat porridge!
So I'd probably think about that before I dilemma-ed (yes, it is a real word) about the wine.
All my love and support - really!!! xxx
Benny perhaps doing things in moderation would be the answer...x
ReplyDeletere my earlier comment: I have just read the chief's post. I did not realize that your fast ended so soon before you went to oz. as i said in my previous post, life is for living and as guzzling wine and munching all the rich food will probably result in your death i retract my previous post unless you stop your fast earlier than planned. hx
